Why does my sealed 2019 MacBook Pro show an expired warranty—was it used?

I ordered a bran new 2019 MacBook Pro but in my apple account it says my guarantee is expired on it. I tried to search the activation date with serial code but couldn't find it. How can I find out if I got scammed with a used laptop or not? Is it possible that because it is already a 6 year old model the guarantee is expired? (The packaging was sealed and everything inside was packed how it should.)

You ordered a "brand new 2019 MacBook Pro"?

According to MacTracker, Apple discontinued the 2019 MacBook Pros in

  • November 2019 – 15" models
  • May 2020 – 13" models
  • October 2021 – 16" models

So it's been at least three and a half years – and possibly close to five and a half years – since the Mac that you purchased was discontinued.

Did you buy this computer from an Apple Authorized Reseller? If you bought it from someone who isn't one, there would be no warranty. If you did buy it from an Apple Authorized Reseller, I'd be very surprised that they had kept around a sealed, new, never-sold unit in stock for several years. As a rule, stores don't like to tie up their money in keeping old stock around for years, especially if that stock is worth as much as a notebook computer is.
