How to turn off Stolen Device Protection

  1. BACK UP YOUR ICLOUD! Settings-> click your name -> iCloud -> iCloud backup -> back up now
  2. Settings-> General-> Transfer or Reset phone -> Erase all content
  3. Once your phone does all that sign back in and add all your same settings, apps etc. it’ll ask you, you won’t have to do it one by one
  4. Stolen Device Protection should be turned off on its own (I didn’t have to click anything)
  5. This was the only thing that worked FOR ME, because I couldn’t scan my face, I couldn’t even reset because mine was set to “Always”
  6. Go to settings and type in “Messages in iCloud” so your text will come back

THIS WAS SO STRESSFUL. HOPE THIS HELPS

Sorry Lawrence, I tried the procedure and it didn’t work. It doesn’t turn Find My off but just puts it in a trade repair state. The Support Advisor must have misspoken, but another one said the real solution is there is no way to bypass it and they must have the TrueDepth camera serviced.

According to About Stolen Device Protection for iPhone - Apple Support

When you restore from iCloud Backup or transfer directly from a previous iPhone to a new one, your device settings — including Stolen Device Protection — are also restored. After a short delay to sync familiar locations from iCloud, the Stolen Device Protection security measures automatically resume on your new device.

Now I'm confused.

CStep 24 did not restore a backup; the set up the phone as new, and added their apps back. App data restored from iCloud does not include SDP.

Thank you greatly for teaching me this! Here's the path I used to suggest and follow, but it seems your way is better. I originally thought that Stolen Device Protection would remain enabled with the backup.

log onto iCloud.com/find on the web then select your iPhone from the list and remove from account. That doesn’t require Face ID and will turn off Activation Lock (Stolen Device Protection). Then you can turn Find My back on after and Stolen Device Protection will remain turned off.

But my face is doesn't work anymore and u have my wallet locked with facial verification. I don't even have my wallet back up phrase. Why would apple create a device and the parts aren't available? I'm stressed out right now because it's an organization money. They think I'm holding on to this intentionally

That can't just be fixed with a few clicks. You'll have to go to your nearest Apple Store's Genius Bar or Apple Authorized Service Provider and have the TrueDepth Camera fixed. By the way the Wallet doesn't backup probably for security reasons and you'll need to manually add your cards and passes again.
