How do I fix Mail freezing after iOS 18.5 update on iPhone 13 Pro Max?

Well I for one have tested all suggestions in the thread and woke up this morning (in Australia) with the same problem so none of the suggestions have worked for me. If they have worked for others, great.

Yeah, it’s not a solution, but I think people upvote those kinds of comments because they’re just relieved or confirming that someone else is having the same problem. It’s less about an "answer" and more about "yep, same here." Not always super helpful, but pretty common in forums & message boards.

As for people testing and not reporting back... your emotional disposition is totally fair to want that but not everyone thinks to circle back after their issue is fixed... lives are busy, obligations can be random, some people are just not about helping the community or they might try something and just move on. Doesn’t mean the advice didn’t help, just that a lot of folks read and bounce unfortunately. Its the internet.

As for repeated comments & questions... that’s always going to happen in bigger threads. Some people find the post via a google search or jump to the end without reading through the original post since that would require reading 30+ individual comments. A little annoying I know but... kind of just how the cookie crumbles in community post.

As for the possible fixes... honestly, big thanks for sharing it. Even if it feels like no one’s listening to the previous post, odds are good that someone quietly tried it and it worked for them. You might not always get a “thanks” but the help still matters. Those who work in helpdesk know what I mean. I’d just say yeah, the noise can be annoying, but don’t let it take away from the fact that you or anyone else posted something that was helpful to even 1 user. No need to be so aggressive about it but thanks for your reply anyway @fittleworth-UK

I have the same issue, so I started chatting with support to report the bug, and they told me to fill out a form! So, what does tech support do? When I worked in support, when there was a bug that could not be resolved, it was escalated to the project managers who worked with the engineers to investigate and address. I never told the customer, "Oh, now you have to fill out another form to report your bug" - WHAT????

I use my phone for work emails and volunteer work, and I can no longer use it.

Apple - there is a bug - fix it!

Yet another user here to add my voice. This is very frustrating. Freezes, won't unfreeze after killing the app (multiple times). Restarts fix it, but only for a short time. VPN off, same as VPN on, no change. Wifi or 5g, no change.

I just came here to say, I’ve had issues with Gmail ever since the last two updates. Constant freezing, I am unable to delete more than one message at a time when previously I could, I have to shut down my phone and restart several times a day just to view emails. It’s beyond frustrating.

Cheers for the feedback - I kind of wondered if something of the sort was going on.

I dropped by when the thread was one page in length, but with no solution - So had a look at my settings and had an idea that iCloud Private Relay and associated settings may be playing a part.

So made a change and for me it has worked.

The other iPhone + iPad users here don’t have the issue btw

Ah, that’s a shame - it was the one change I made. (Apart from iCloud Private Relay being activated back in April)

I’m still of the mind it is a networking issue rather than the Mail app - but I understand from the OP (if memory serves) Apple know of the issue and will implement a fix.

Same issue. Wife and I both have 13 pro max’s…mine is acting stupid, hers is fine. I’m about ready to throw this thing out the window. Mail app freezes regularly, as do several others- sometimes other apps seem to have issue connecting with their servers- inspite of full service data and strong WiFi.

This is also happening on my iPhone 15

Exactly the same issue- and only started when I did the 18.5 update!!! With so many people saying the same thing you would think that @apple would sort this urgently!

I am having the same issue it started on June 4 2025 and happened again this morning. Keep having to restart my phone. This is very frustrating and I hope Apple take care of this issue soon.
