Can I share my positive experience with iPhone 15 Pro Max and inquire about MacBook Pro?

Is this place for complaints only or is it cool if I tell everyone how happy I am with my iPhone 15 Pro Max…

Does anyone have a MacBook Pro? What’s it like?

Sure. You can provide your positive experience with the iPhone too.

A MacBook Pro is just a very powerful laptop.
If you have ever used a laptop, then you know what it's like for the most part.
It's just faster and generally better for most things than other laptops.
It will not run Windows applications though.
It will run Microsoft Windows Applications just fine if you have an Office 360 Subscription. I use Microsoft Word and other MS applications daily on my MBP. Through my Office 360 subscription, there are Mac specific versions available.

Those are not Windows applications. Those are Mac applications made by Microsoft specifically made to work on Mac. They have absolutely nothing to do with Microsoft Windows at all.

Applications made specifically for Windows will not work on Mac.

I just bought the M4 Pro Macbook Pro 14" to replace a well-traveled 2012 Macbook Pro and I am very happy with it.

Careful. You may have meant that to say "It will run [many of] Microsoft's Windows applications …" – but a lot of people will take that to mean "It will run [Microsoft Windows] applications just fine …".

I use Microsoft Word and other MS applications daily on my MBP. Through my Office 360 subscription, there are Mac specific versions available.

There are many major applications that have both Windows and macOS versions. These include Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint; Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and Lightroom Classic, and many others.

The key is that there must be a version of the program built for macOS. What your Office 360 subscription gives you is access to several applications with Mac versions – not a way to run Windows applications on your Mac.

This isn't really a place for accolades or complaints. This is a technical support forum where users ask other users for technical support. Many of us volunteer our time to help fellow users.

It's great that you are seemingly happy with your iPhone 15 Pro Max. It's a great iPhone for sure.

I do own a MacBook Pro and honestly, just like every Apple product, it's FANTASTIC. Best computer I've EVER owned. You couldn't pay me to go back to a Windows computer.

OK. I should have said I run Mac Specific Microsoft applications and perhaps Phil might have said you can't run Microsoft Apps unless there is a Mac Specific version. When I say I use Word for example on my MBP, it is still a Microsoft application.

In general, an application platform is defined by two things:

  • The type of machine code that the processor runs
  • The set of services available for applications to use

Change either, and you are talking about a different platform, that cannot run the same application binaries, unless some special provision is made to "bridge the gap". An Intel-based PC running Microsoft Windows speaks a different machine language and offers a different set of services than an Apple-Silicon-based Mac running macOS. Even when Macs used Intel processors, the fact that the operating systems offered different sets of services was enough to make the platforms different.
