Issue while turning off Stolen Device Protection on iPhone

SDP is requiring that I wait an hour to change my password, so I turned it off using Face ID.

SDP is now requiring that I wait an hour to turn SDP off.

Is this feature necessary to my Applecare or AppleCare lost/stolen device protection?I’d appreciate it if I could leave this off in order to improve my iPhone’s productivity.

My buddy obtained a few other devices and had to wait the hour as well, so it’s not unique to mine. He offered me one of the stolen ones with SDP switched off, but I’d prefer to use my own for obvious reasons.

TYIA!

Yes, the 1 hour Security Delay is a crucial security feature of Stolen Device Protection. This ensures if a thief ever knows your iPhone's passcode and steals your iPhone, that delay will prevent them from making any sensitive changes to your Account, and giving you time to act upon it and secure your Account. You can choose to set Stolen Device Protection to "Away from Familiar Locations", so if you are ever at your home or work and decide to make a sensitive change, it may not require the delay, as it would be unlikely the thief would be there.

That's not the experience I'm having. I am at home, the same home where I've lived for 20+ years, where my Apple watch is on my wrist, where my iPad is sitting on my desk, and where my iPhone 12 refuses to disable stolen device protection because I'm not in a "familiar location". So I am now sitting here waiting on the countdown to expire for the SECOND time today so I can hopefully disable this garbage. I will never EVER enable stolen device protection on any of my Apple devices again. The sad thing is, I'm retired. I spend 95% of my time at home. I don't go to work anymore, I don't hang out very much at other locations. Yep, Apple doesn't consider this to be a "familiar location". I would really like someone to explain this to me.

I agree - I have only done this while at home, and have always run into the 1-hour delay. After trying it 3 times, I was able to successfully turn it off. However, I am still unsure if this voids my Apple theft and loss recovery. I am sensitive about that because I lost my iPhone 15 and AIG used every technicality they could to get out of paying the claim.

on that note, I am curious if it would ever be possible to physically talk with somebody that works at AIG? I feel like they owe me a lot as a taxpayer and I would like to get that from them. Is anyone here know how I might be able to do that?
