Apple has not released macOS 26. They have not even released a public beta version of it.


The developer beta is meant for software developers. It is unfinished software and could be full of major bugs. The main reasons that Apple released it in the first place are to help shake out bugs in macOS and to help developers to get their applications ready for the new OS before it s officially released.


By installing it, you volunteered to be a "lab rat" and a "guinea pig".

This process worked for me on my M3 MacBook Pro:


Note, some other docs refer to this page Revive or restore a Mac with Apple silicon with Apple Configurator 2 - Apple Support. This did not work for me. Firstly, it refers to M1 Macs only but importantly the “Apple Configurator” app it refers to seems now focused on IPads, iPhones, and Apple TVs. In any case, it did not work for me.
