How do I find a lost left AirPod when Find My won’t work?

I lost my left AirPod a few weeks ago and have been diligently looking for it. I'm at my office, and Find My says they are within 0 miles of me, now. The FindMy search function isn't working, and neither is playing a sound. How can I find this? I'm confused about how it's putting off its location and consistently updates, but not connecting.

Hi GurnardChop,

If Find My shows your left AirPod’s location as within 0 miles but isn’t connecting or playing a sound, try these steps to locate it:

  1. Check Nearby Areas: Since Find My indicates the AirPod is close, thoroughly search your office, focusing on desks, drawers, under furniture, or in bags. Check pockets of clothing you wore recently.
  2. Reset AirPods: Place the right AirPod in the case, then reset them by opening the case, pressing and holding the back button for 15 seconds until the light flashes amber, then white. Re-pair with your iPhone and check Find My again.
  3. Use Bluetooth Scanner Apps: Download a Bluetooth scanner app (like Wunderfind) from the App Store to detect nearby Bluetooth signals. It may help pinpoint the AirPod’s signal if it’s still emitting one.
  4. Mark as Lost: In Find My, select your AirPods, tap “Mark as Lost,” and activate it with your contact info. If someone finds and connects it, you’ll be notified.
  5. Retrace Steps: Since the location updates but doesn’t connect, the AirPod may be out of battery or in a low-signal area. Think back to where you last used it in the office and check those spots.

If these don’t work, the AirPod may be dead or out of range despite the location update. Contact Apple Support for replacement options, as a single AirPod can be purchased.

Let us know how it goes.
