how to get apple keyboard to type where i hit?

How can I convince the Apple keyboard that I want to type the letter a? If I hit A, it keeps trying to make me type S.

Can I uninstall the keyboard and reinstall?

iPhone 14 Plus, iOS 18

Remove any protective case, and remove any screen-protective film, and try again.

If that does not resolve this, then your display or digitizer might be failing.

Contact Apple Support.

Does this also happen with the on-screen keyboard oriented in landscape?

As an alternative, does using slide-to-type work better for you? (Settings > General > Slide to Type > [on])

This happens no matter the orientation.

As well, the problem is infinitely worse with slide to type. That used to be my go to typing method, but can’t without having to continually restart because it’s not correct
