I used iMazing once, before I started using iCloud. It seemed to work. I stopped when I traded in for a new iPad and they wouldn't transfer the license. That was before "subscription" pricing-- now it's $50/year, apparently. It was way more versatile than using Finder. It looks like it's not in the App Store

There might be other apps…

Seriously, iCloud is better, though. I spend $3/month.

Is this on your phone? If so, then if these pictures were transferred via USB cable from the Mac, then they are not full in Photos' control. You need to use the Mac to "sync" an empty folder to the phone, and that should replace the pictures previously transferred in that way with "emptiness."

Since I don't use the USB thing anymore, I'm not sure exactly what the constraints are…

That looks like the right order. It is definitely important to increase your iCloud quota before enabling iCloud Photos on your iPhone because operating an iPhone connected to a full iCloud can cause unpredictable results.

Your step 2 ("sync my iPhone") is really "enable iCloud Photos on my iPhone". The deletion of the Finder-synced photos will probably happen before any downloads, but you can wait for the full download if you prefer.

Do you have iCloud Photos enabled on your MacBook? That would make a difference to the plan.

Thanks Richard for the reply.

Yes these photos on my iPhone; and they were transferred via the USB cable from the MAC. Since then, I have reformat my MAC to pass on to my daughter, so it is a brand new MAC now.

And YES, I tried to sync the iPhone with empty "Photo folder" but no luck .... hints/tips form you is apprecaited.

Is there an APP or a way to remove these photos on iPhone ?

Hi Mark, will give this a try and let you know.

The issue is that I have maxed out my current iCloud limit.

here is my thinking

  1. restart iCloud with 1TB limit (my current size is 700 GB)
  2. sync my iPhone.
  3. Hope this clears photos (without a trash icon)
  4. Stop iCloud
  5. Move iPhone photos to Macbook
  6. Delete iPhone photos to around 100 GB
  7. restart iCloud with lower limit.

Thanks for your help and let me know if I have missed something ?
