iOS 18.5 battery drain and missing notification popups on iPhone

Hello Apple Team and Community,

After updating my iPhone to iOS 18.5, I’ve experienced the worst battery performance ever. My phone barely lasts 3 hours on a full charge, even with minimal usage. This has never happened with any previous updates.

In addition to the rapid battery drain, I’m no longer receiving important notification popups, which is seriously affecting my daily workflow.

I strongly urge Apple to investigate and release an iOS 18.5.1 update as soon as possible to fix these critical issues.

The first thing to do is a Force Restart. It may take a couple of attempts to get the speed and sequence of the key presses correct:

  • Press and quickly release Volume Up
  • Press and quickly release Volume Down
  • Press and HOLD side button until the Apple Logo appears. Ignore anything else you see on the screen during that time and it could take up to 15 seconds before you see the Apple Logo.

For your Battery performance, check your Battery Health at Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging > Maximum Capacity. If it is below 80%, then it needs replacing. You can also check the apps that are using the battery at Settings > Battery and scroll down to show the battery graph and the top apps using the battery. You can post a screenshot of this page if you wish.

Apps are usually updated much more frequently than iOS updates and by default will update in the background, so not as noticeable as an iOS update. Some of these updates have seen poor battery performance and especially noted with the Meta updates. These have been updated as many as 10 times in just the last month and even Google has called out Meta for an update causing poor battery performance.

For not receiving Notifications, it would be helpful to know which notifications you are not seeing. Is it specific to an app and is it consistent or just happen on occasion. Do you have a Focus setting preventing notifications that would be identified with a Focus icon on the top of your screen?

Also after any update, your files are going to be reindexed and the photos will be analyzed with updated object detection algorithms. This usually only takes about 3 or 4 days and depends on the number of photos. These background processes will use more battery power until they are completed and is best to have plugged into power.

Every time there is an update some users experience reduced battery life; it’s happened with every one of the 50+ updates issued over the past 18 years. It is not a problem with the release; it is how your apps have responded to the update. Here is some guidance on how to troubleshoot the issue→The last update killed my battery! - Apple Community

I have been having issues with battery health after updating to iOS18.5 as well. I would go to bed with almost 50% battery, and wake up to find that my phone battery is at 10%, with zero activity over the night as I have my phone on DND mode. This is quite distressing and I hope it's an issue with the OS and that Apple can quickly push out an update to fix it. I already tried all the troubleshooting and tips to help with improving battery life.

You left out the most important pieces of information.

  • What is your Maximum Capacity at Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging.
  • Post the Screen Shot of Settings > Battery, that shows the green graph along with the top 5 apps that are consuming your battery using the option for the last 24 hours. DND does not mean your battery is not being used, and some apps will use your battery whether the app is open or not. Some of the Social Media apps are notorious for doing this.
