Best external speakers macbook pro (m2 chip) sequoia

I have been having sound issues with my macbook pro 2023 internal speakers and haven't really got a resolution in how to fix. I replaced the internal speakers and still have problems with the right speaker vibrating and a blowing sound coming out after I stop playing music. In the meantime, I thought I might try some external speakers. I mainly listen to youtube for music. What would be a good quality bluetooth speaker that would have better quality than the internal speakers. I don't want to spend a ton of $, but want speakers that will last and be good quality. Thanks!

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 15.5

To be honest, it will be hard to find both superb sound quality with any small (especially low-cost) speakers, and what sounds best to you, is strictly a personal matter. As such, what would sound best to me is no way a guarantee it would for you.

Audio quality comes down to, at least, three things:

  1. The source. Lossless (uncompressed) audio provides the highest sound quality vs. compressed audio.
  2. The ability to stream that source. Apple's AirPlay 2 supports streaming lossless audio. On the other hand, Bluetooth cannot.
  3. Your ability to hear it. As you can imagine, as we age, our ability to hear the full spectrum (typically 20 - 20,000 Hz) of frequencies is significantly reduced, especially on the higher end of that spectrum.

With that said, If you prioritize audio fidelity and video sync over portability and are in the Apple ecosystem, the HomePod is the clear winner — especially for a mixed music and movie experience. If you need on-the-go use with solid sound, and you’re okay sacrificing a bit of that immersive quality, then the Bose SoundLink Flex is the most versatile. Personally, I'd skip the Beats Pill unless you already have one or find it super cheap — it’s outclassed now in both audio performance and features.

Regardless, of which you go with, be sure to understand the store's return policy in case it doesn't meet your needs. With Apple, you typically have 14 days to return items for a full refund. For Bose, that would be 90 days.

Since you mostly listen to YouTube and are looking for something that just works without introducing sync issues, Bluetooth can be okay — but it usually introduces a small but noticeable lag. This matters more for video content like YouTube, less so for music.

Here are some wireless speakers I suggest that you consider:

  • Bose SoundLink Flex
  • Audioengine A2+ Wireless
  • Anker Soundcore Motion+

If you do decide to go wired (which I highly recommend for syncing and reliability), a simple set of Creative Pebble V3 USB-C speakers would be what I would suggest.

some bluetooth speakers have more which is not a problem for music and such but would be for movies where you can see the lips and sound being out of sync.

the homepods are wireless apart from getting AC power to well power the speaker

I have several sonos portable speakers which support airplay but never really put to the test how they perform if I were to attempt to audio output to them if I were to wish to watch a movie on an ios device.
