Having bought several refurbed devices directly from Apple, I can add a tidbit to Katana-san's most excellent guidance.

Decide the options you want (usually storage and color for an iPad) ahead of time. When ready to buy, check the site HOURLY— I found selections for some device can change that fast.

When you see one that matches, act immediately. Note that special-order options are not available with refurbs.

If you want to see which models are more recent, you could download the free MacTracker app. It has Mac, iPhone, and iPad versions. The Mac version is available from the developer's site ( MacTracker ) or the Mac App Store. The iPhone / iPad versions are available from the respective App Stores.

Note that sometimes the latest version of MacTracker is a few months out of date. (E.g., the latest version does not have entries for the M4 MacBook Airs, even though they have been out for a while.)

Another source of information is Manuals, Specs, and Downloads - Apple Support – where you can find Technical Specifications for just about all current and recent products.

Hi. Tx for this advice. I'm kind of toying with getting an ipad mini instead of the regular size one.
Are the minis shown on herea (refurbd I mean) younger in age?

It all depends on what is available. My experience is that I seldom see stuff as refurbs that are older than the last previous version. Example if iPad 10 is the latest, most reforms will tend to be iPad 9.
