iPhone freezes when receiving a call

Hello.

For last few months I'm getting the same issue which couldn't be resolved for now.

When I receive a call on my IPhone, my screen turns off and it just didn't react for 1-15 minutes. However, I can pick up the call via my Apple Watch. It happens not every time, 1-2 times per day.

In terms of the updates, I have the latest IOS 18.5, phone is 16 PRO MAX.

I gave the phone for local diagnostics, they couldn't identify any issues, just reset everything to factory settings and reinstalled the phone. In few days I started to face the same issues.

Please advise what to do?

Thanks

iPhone XS, iOS 18

If you have a case or a screen protector that blocks the facial proximity detector near the top of the screen your phone will do exactly what you describe. When you are on a call using the phone hand-held this proximity detector turns off the screen so your face doesn’t engage any of the controls on the screen. So the first thing to try is removing the case.
