Apple refused refund for $199.99 app subscription — even after I called support twice

Just a heads-up to others — I was charged $199.99 for an annual app subscription I forgot was still active. I hadn’t used the app, and didn’t see any reminder or renewal notice. I requested a refund through Apple twice and was denied both times. Then I called Apple Support directly and explained everything, and they still refused to refund it.

I also reached out to the app developer directly and am still waiting for a response.

What is there to say for a reason. You agreed to the subscription which always included auto-renewal no matter what service you use. There is never a notification sent to you asking you if you still want to continue. That is true for Netflix, Amazon, Youtube, etc. I would always recommend to set a reminder yourself, so you can then evaluate whether you want to continue the subscription. It is as easy as saying "Siri, remind me in 11 months to evaluate my subscription". It really is that simple and it is your responsibility. There is no one else to blame.

Cancelling a subscription prevents it from being renewed, but you do not get a refund for any unused portion. In most cases, all transactions in the App Store are final. At times Apple may provide a compassionate refund, but it certainly should not ever be expected. It is either a Yes or No.

Yeah. This was just a spur of the moment download with free trial and I should have canceled the subscription immediately so charge wouldn’t start after trial ended but I forgot about having it because something happened and had to run out of the house right after I tried to use it. And there goes $200.

That does suck. Free Trials come with strings attached. You will get a chance to use the service for free, but the burden then shifts to you to cancel before you are charged. That is the trade-off. It is not a secret or a trick, as everything is clearly laid out on the screen where you double click the side button to approve the free trial. It shows the trial period, subscription start date and cost, and the message to cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends to avoid any charges.

Well it isn't Apple's fault or job for you to remember your own subscription, that is your responsibility.

instead of saying Apple denied you twice, why not state why they denied you.
