My iPhone 15 Pro doesn't charge wireless on my new BMW

I recently purchased a BMW X2 and I’m experiencing an issue with wireless charging. My iPhone 15 Pro does not charge when placed on the car’s wireless charging pad. I have already:

  • Removed the phone case
  • Ensured proper alignment on the charging pad
  • Restarted both the iPhone and the car's infotainment system
  • Updated to the latest iOS version

The issue persists. I’ve heard that this might be related to a software compatibility issue between iOS and the vehicle's wireless charging system.

Could you please let me know if there is a known issue or a fix in progress?

Any support or guidance would be appreciated.

iPhone 15 Pro, iOS 18

This is not an unusual issue with many different car manufacturers charging pads. It is not a software issue. It is almost always an issue with where the charging coil is located in the cars charging pad. Your iPhone is MagSafe and that means the alignment of the coil in the car to the coil in the phone must be aligned exactly. The sad reality is most car companies don't spend much money on the components in the charging pad in their cars. You can try to move the phone on the pad little by little to see if you can find the right spot. Or you may just not be able to use the pad in your car.

I had a 2024 Genesis GV70 (the engine blew up at 850 miles, different story) but my iPhone 15 Pro Max would not charge on the pad in the Genesis. After the engine blew up in the Genesis, I bought a Mazda CX70 and the phone did charge on the Mazda pad. Worst case for you is you use USB charging in your BMW.
