Depends on the kind of message you are sending
You can add bold, italics, underline, strikethrough and a number of effects to iMessages (blue bubbles), by selecting the text you want to modify, and then and tapping on the > on the tool ribbon that appears until you see "Text Effects".
If its regular text message (green bubble), then no, no text enhancements can be added.
