Google Map orientation is wrong when connected through Apple CarPlay

A couple of days ago, Google Maps stopped rotated to keep up with pointing in the direction the car is headed if I connect through Apple CarPlay. I am using an iPhone 13 Pro Max running iOS 18.5 Google Maps behaves just fine for my wife on her iPhone 15.

I had no luck fixing the issue when I toggled on then off the "Keep map north up" setting under Google Maps Settings -> Navigation as suggested in this thread. I even rebooted the phone.
