Fake.

Look carefully at the sending domain name.

It might look like Apple.com at a quick glance, but it is very definitely not that.

This mail message is seeking to phish your Apple Account credentials. Do not provide that.

It’s being sent by whoever has your Mac.

Also, some thieves are clearly in possession of your Mac, and it is never coming back.

I cannot determine if the message is legitimate or not since it was [Edited by Moderator], presumably for valid reasons.

Let's assume it is not legit though. Do not click any links in that email message. In general, it is not a good idea to do that because those links may redirect to some authentic-looking yet completely fraudulent website. Instead, go to the Find My app on your own.

FWIW, I know what the sending email address was. It is (was) not a legitimate Apple address.

I’ll wager at least one other embedded link in the phishing message goes “elsewhere”, too.
