Well, the developers at Paytm and Google Pay have decided that they want their apps to run on iOS 17 or higher. This was a decision made by Paytm and Google Pay.....not by Apple.

iOS 17 is no longer available, but even if it was, your iPhone 7.....introduced in September of 2019......would not be compatible with iOS 17, iOS 18 and iOS 26 (coming in the fall). The iPhone 7 simply does not have the processing power to handle newer iOS versions.

In effect, the developers at Paytm and Google Pay have abandoned you and they are forcing you to buy a new phone if you want to use their apps.

My recommendation would be to consider the iPhone 15 or iPhone 16, which will receive iOS updates for the next 7 years or so.

Re: “What should i do now for using my payments apps”

Buy a new phone. You can thank NPCI and/or scammers for this. My understanding is that iOS 17 has a new UPI-related security feature that NPCI wanted so much that they are apparently willing to force app developers to abandon support for any iPhone that doesn’t have it. NPCI and the banks could support your iPhone, but they would rather abandon it than take a greater security / fraud risk.

If this is in regard to UPI payments, it was not Paytm and Google who made the decision. It was NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India), the outfit that runs the UPI system, and makes the rules, in connection with the banks.

When NPCI and the banks make a rule like “we’re only going to allow UPI payments on iPhones running iOS 17 or higher,” and tell app developers like Paytm and Google to jump, the app developers have to say “How high?”

They can’t tell NPCI and the banks to stuff it. Not unless they want to remove all UPI support of any kind from their apps. Which would STILL not allow UPI payments on the iPhone 7.
