Re: “Well, the developers at Paytm and Google Pay have decided that they want their apps to run on iOS 17 or higher. This was a decision made by Paytm and Google Pay.....not by Apple.”
If this is in regard to UPI payments, it was not Paytm and Google who made the decision. It was NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India), the outfit that runs the UPI system, and makes the rules, in connection with the banks.
When NPCI and the banks make a rule like “we’re only going to allow UPI payments on iPhones running iOS 17 or higher,” and tell app developers like Paytm and Google to jump, the app developers have to say “How high?”
They can’t tell NPCI and the banks to stuff it. Not unless they want to remove all UPI support of any kind from their apps. Which would STILL not allow UPI payments on the iPhone 7.
