How to get ASUS ZenDrive external drive to connect on MacBook with Thunderbolt and USB-C?

I recently purchased an ASUS Zendrive External optical drive due having no disc player with my MacBook pro M3 running Sequoia. This was advertised as works with Mac and Windows 11 and above . In inserted a music disc and it worked on first installation which I was very pleased with, but the second time around it just didn't want to know. Thinking this was faulty, or the lead was faulty, I exchanged for a replacement. This one does not work at all and I am unable to locate this anywhere on my laptop. I have tried to mount it manually and searched for it using all the three ports on my MacBook. There is nothing wrong with the ports as have tried other items such as my iphone and ipad and they are recognised and found in sytem -settings for example. They are apple products which is probably why. However, I have tried re-booting, searching, using repair on various installations and am at my wits end. I am just confused with why it worked once and then stopped.

So far I have purchased a Dell, an ASUS Zendrive and a second Zendrive. I have also tried connecting to the USB-C socket I have on my 3 pin plug socket at home and this does not work either. The green light does not come on with the home socket, but flashes green when plugged into my laptop.

I note that my laptop has thunderbolt connections and the ASUS has a USB-C connection, I understand that this has less power and wonder if an adaptor or separate connection is needed? But why did this work the first time?????

Since you have an Apple Silicon Mac notebook, there's also this:

If your Mac asks you to allow an accessory to connect - Apple Support

You may need "to allow new USB or Thunderbolt accessories and SD cards to connect before you can use them with your Mac laptop computer with Apple silicon."

Asus seems to have several models of ZenDrive optical drives that include USB-C cables and that are advertised as being compatible with Macs.

You may want to check Finder Settings to make sure that the Finder will show optical disc volumes on the Desktop and in the sidebars of Finder windows. (There are controls for this under two tabs.)

Music and TV may need permission to access CD-Audio and DVD-Video discs. The permissions would be under System Settings > Privacy & Security > Files & Folders, where you would want to see entries for Music, and for TV, granting access to Removable Volumes. If there are no entries for Music or TV, I believe the only way that you can create them in Sequoia is to run those programs (with the optical drive attached, maybe with a disc in it), and then give the permissions when those applications ask for it. (You can't just go and create the permissions first – anticipating that you are going to need them.)
