Apple Wireless Keyboard (A1255) disconnecting intermittently on M1 Pro when BT Headphones are connected

Hello,


I have a Apple Wireless Keyboard (A1255, Version 1.4.1) that works fine on my 14 Inch Mac Pro (2021, with sequoia 15.5) until I connect bluetooth headphones on it.


I have Sony 1000xm3 and Galaxy Buds (83C2) bluetooth headphones and everytime I connect them the keyboard starts disconnecting (connection lost message) and reconnecting from bluetooth for some reason (even with full batteries).


I have the Magic Mouse (3.1.1) also connected to the bluetooth and this interference does not happen.


Only the Wireless Keyboard disconnects when the 3 are connected, the mouse nor the headphones have any problem at all.


I also have a Annepro 2 mechanical keyboard that has zero problems connecting to the macbook pro when the headphones are connected.


Does anybody knows what might causing it and if there is a way to fix it?

Based on what you’ve said, this definitely sounds like a Bluetooth interference or resource contention issue, most likely related to how macOS and the older Apple Wireless Keyboard (A1255) are negotiating bandwidth and priority with multiple active Bluetooth LE devices.


The A1255, being an older device (Bluetooth 2.0), doesn’t support the more efficient Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) profiles that newer devices like the Magic Mouse and modern headphones do. So when you connect a high-bandwidth device like your Sony 1000XM3 or Galaxy Buds, the Mac's Bluetooth controller is likely prioritizing audio streaming, which leaves less available bandwidth or timing for the A1255, causing it to drop.


Ok, so what can you try to resolve this?

  • Forget and re-pair your A1255 keyboard.
  • Reset the Mac's Bluetooth module
    • Open Terminal and run: sudo pkill bluetoothd
    • Then reboot. This resets all Bluetooth configurations.
  • If you’re using 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, try changing the router’s channel to something farther away from Bluetooth frequencies (channels 1 or 11 are usually safest). BT and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi can clash badly.
  • Only use one headphone set at a time.
  • Finally, consider upgrading this keyboard to a newer model.
