How do I remove Activation Lock on MacBook Air M1?

Subject: Request to Remove Activation Lock on MacBook Air M1 (FVF*******L5)

Dear Apple Support,

My name is Mathews and I am a student from Malawi. I recently purchased a used MacBook Air M1 (2020), Model A2337, with serial number FVF*******L5 on 28 June 2025. After trying to set it up, I discovered that the Mac is Activation Locked and still linked to a previous Apple ID.

Unfortunately, I was not informed about this at the time of purchase, and I have since lost all contact with the seller. I do not know the original owner and have no access to their Apple ID or password.

I am kindly requesting your assistance in determining whether it is possible to remove the Activation Lock. I fully understand and respect Apple’s strict security policies and am only seeking help as a genuine buyer who unknowingly purchased a locked device. I need this MacBook for school purposes.

Here are my details:

  • Name: Mathews

  • Phone (WhatsApp): +265 885 ******

  • MacBook Serial Number: FVF*******L5

  • Country: Malawi

  • Date of Purchase: 28 June 2025

If required, I am willing to provide my ID or any additional information.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Mathews

Sorry. You have been scammed.

Apple can't help you. Only the owner of the account used to lock it can remove the activation lock.

Activation lock is a theft deterrent feature meant to render a lost or stolen device useless to anyone other than the legitimate owner.

The Mac you purchased is undoubtedly stolen. Take it to the police and give them all the information you have on the seller.
