iPhone 16 Plus is overheating and crashing during photo editing

My iPhone 16 plus on iOS 18.5 is constantly crashing and heating up when I try to edit photos

I’ve been hoping for a software update to address this but it’s been going on for months… is anyone else having this annoying issue?

I can’t get any of my photos edited for work and it’s such an annoyance
