IPhone 15 pro wont charge over 80% because of “overheating”

My IPhone 15 pro device is not charging over 80% since i updated it to iOS 18. It says that the device needs to cool down to continue charging. It would be absolutely okay IF IT WAS REALLY HOT. But when i check if it really is warm, I quickly notice that its not. I would like to leave the house with a fully charged phone but I ** unable because it lies that its too hot and refuses charging further.

It is very annoying and I would like to know if theres a solution to this bug.

(my charging limit is NOT set to 80%)

When you see this notification, which by the way is a new feature and NOT overheating, are you taking the phone off it's charger? This feature is new and is a result of fast charging. When you charge your iPhone with at least a 20w charger, it rapidly charges up to 80%, then posts the notification you are seeing, which suggests charging is paused until the phone cools down. The intent is to protect your battery from heating to a higher level, but your phone isn't overheating.

The best thing you can do with your phone is plug it in to charge when you go to bed at night, with Optimized Battery Charging enabled and leave it plugged in ALL night, EVERY night. Your phone will rapidly charge to 80%, then pause as you're seeing and then finish charging to 100% once it learns your charging habits.

My charging limit is set to 95% so the optimized battery charging option is not enabled. Although i do use it with a 30W macbook charger. May it be the problem? I do believe that ive read that Apple suggest to use a maximum of about 27W for the phone. Idk if its true but maybe it can cause this problem right?

Honestly, you'll find most of us senior members on this forum, who have been here for years, find the Charging Limit more gimmick than useful. I want a full days charge when I take my phone off the charger in the morning. If this feature was truly something which would save your battery, Apple would have implemented on any iPhone which can use iOS 18 but they didn't. It's only an option on iPhone 15 and 16 models.

And no, you could use a charger well over 100w and it wouldn't hurt your phone or cause it to get any hotter than a 20w charger. The charger is actually built into your iPhone. It draws all it is designed to draw from the charging cube and no more.

The normal behavior is to fast charge to 80%, then you will see a message that charging is on hold while it cools down before it continues a slow charge to your charge limit or 100% if not set. With iOS 18 you see the message telling you exactly what is going on. Sometimes too much information only causes confusion.

That does not indicate you have a problem at all. You are fine with the 30W charger and your phone only draws that amount of energy from the charger that it wants.
