Hi H1290, I recall the word Lawrence Finch used was “The Second Law of Thermodynamics.” Which basically means anything that uses energy must exert some. Your iPhone gets warm while charging because not all the energy goes into the battery, some of it turns into heat and exerts itself.

Your iPhone is supposed to exert heat when charging, in fact anything that uses energy is designed to. This is absolutely normal and your iPhone is not considered overheating. If your iPhone really were overheating, it would display a Temperature Warning or Charging On Hold message, which would prevent you from using the iPhone until it cools down. So if you don’t see that, you can continue to charge normally.
