When setting up a shortcut for a sound to play when CarPlay connects, only a text tone will play. The file I want is selected and is shown but it will only play the tone. The sound file is local. I’ve tried restarting and redownloading, etc.

The order of actions is important! The Play sound action should be after you've specified the sound file and then, in Play sound, tap Choose Variable to choose your sound file.

that link doesn’t work and I can’t copy and paste it. Going to the sound Bible site takes you to some other site for sounds (cell beat). Then when I try to sign up for that site it takes me to some gaming site. So I didn’t sign up.

Please post the screenshot (with expanded actions) of the version of your shortcut that's doing that.

It worked before using one of these files. But I tried to change the sound and now only plays the tone. I’ll try your link

Downloaded a sound from that site after all. I still only get the text tone.

When I choose variable there is no option to do that.
