iphone SE screen frozen even after OS update and still unresponsive after hard reset

Help!

my iphone SE 2nd gen (5 year old phone yes old i know) screen started freezing recently and I put it down to low space and running the old OS (i couldn't install latest version as I never had space) and I was able to eventually get it working again via hard reset volume up, vol down then power button method. Took the opportunity to free up space on the phone when the screen started working again and deleted loads of apps, video etc eventually making enough room for the update, installed the update to the latest OS and guess what? the screen is still not working and is in the 'hello' 'set up iphone' mode after installing the new OS and the hard reset method is no longer working and the phone is completely unusable, I tried restarting it several times throughout the day and nearly 24 hours after the update its still not working, to make matters worse it wont show up when I connect to my mac now and even when I do itunes says i need to install a new OS on my macbook pro which is a 2011 model, would it even be able to update to an OS that would support my phone? . any thoughts? please help, would fitting a new screen to the phone possibly fix the issue? please please help, thanks

iPhone SE, iOS 18

If you’ve done a full hard reset holding through to the appearance of the Apple logo and past any sliders that might show, then the next step is a backup, factory reset, and restore.

If problems persist after that is a repair, or replacement. You’ll want the backup anyway.

Why the factory reset? An iPhone with a full file system can encounter corruptions.

If the hardware is failing, I wouldn’t spend on a replacement display for an iPhone SE 2nd, but that’s entirely your decision and not mine.

The six models of MacBook Pro from 2011 can all get to macOS 10.13, which should be enough to back up and reset. There can be an update mentioned within iTunes that is specific to iTunes, and not to macOS. If that update is not loading within iTunes, then restart the Mac and re-connect the iPhone and check again.

ive been using icloud for years and all my photos etc are uploading to it. most recent upload was a few days before the screen stopped working. Am i right in thinking that this means a full backup of my phone is also already there on my icloud?

It can mean your iCloud Photos are backed up, but we dont know about your iPhone’s content. You can go to appleid.apple.com and check when your iPhone was last backed up to iCloud.

If the iPhone is bricked, then you can lose anything not hosted elsewhere, and not otherwise already backed up.

Log into iCloud.com using your Apple,Account, and check what you have available there. That can include Photos, any files stored in iCloud Files, any iCloud backups performed, etc.

You may need to either recover access to your Apple Account, or (probably better) work with your carrier to relocate your trusted telephone number to a working device. This to regain access to iCloud without access to a trusted device available, assuming this iPhone is your only trusted device.
