My Apple ID password no longer works after moved to Mac from Windows

I have moved to Mac from Windows having been hacked twice. I believe I have lost my Apple ID. I can sign in with a passkey but my Apple ID password no longer works.

May have advice too please on password use. I have bought an Apple Mac Pro and the Studio Mac for Architectural design packages. Currently I have different passwords for the MacBook Pro and Studio. This was to try and secure myself from further phishing attacks. It would be simpler to use a common password between both. Any advice please?

Apple ID is now known as Apple Account. It is the one account you use for everything Apple, including FaceTime and Messages. Generally, it is an email address that is used to sign in. (Can be a phone number in a very few countries.) If you have lost access to your account, there are ways to regain access.

Apple Support's documentation and knowledge-base articles (links below) provide much guidance.

You may want to browse through suggested articles if and when the need arises.

You might want to check that you have signed in to your new Mac(s) with your correct Apple account details:

Sign in to your Apple Account on the web or in your device settings - Apple Support

If your Apple Account password is not working for you, you can likely change it.

You can proceed as if the password has been forgotten:

If you have difficulty getting a verification code:

A code is generally sent to a"trusted" computer or device, (one listed in your Apple Account)

or you can often obtain a code directly on a "trusted" computer or device.

If you wish, you can find out which computers / devices appear in your Apple Account device list:

Check your Apple Account device list to find where you’re signed in - Apple Support

If all else fails: There is an Account recovery process in place, is mostly used as a "last resort" though.:

I guess there are pros and cons to weigh, but seems to me it is up to the individual user to choose.

We all have different needs, environment, circumstances etc., maybe one size doesn't fit all ?
