Apple Pencil USB C adapter not working with my iPad A16

I recently bought and iPad A16 and wanted to use my Apple Pencil first gen with it so I bought the USB C adapter, the message to pair pops up and when I click agree it just stays that way and never pairs. I have tried restarting my iPad, I have charged the Apple Pencil and nothing. My Apple Pencil does work with my old iPad, I have already unpaired them and clicked forget device but it still won’t connect to my iPad A16. I have tried everything and nothing works. I recently tried it with my friend’s iPad, which is the 10th generation, and it does pair, so I don’t know what the problem is with my iPad. It is brand new and other devices do connect through Bluetooth. The adapter also worked with my friend’s iPad, I don’t understand why it won’t connect with mine. I’d love to get some help with this or get contacted by Apple’s support
