How to cast files from Google Drive to TV?

I am trying to share some video files with a friend so that he can cast them to a TV to watch.

He has an iPad.

At the moment the files are in Google Drive and shared with him. He can see the files and select one to play, but the native player on the iPad doesn't seem to have the ability to cast to the TV.

I have installed the VLC app and this can cast the videos but the only way, so far, I have got this to work is to copy each file from Drive to the iPad's local storage and this is a pain!

Is there any way to get VLC to access the files on Drive without downloading?

Is there any other method of being able to play/cast video files direct from Drive?

Thanks

iPad (10th generation)

Attempting to play video files directly from Cloud storage can be problematic. Server loading and the speed of the associated internet connection can seriously interfere with playback of high-bandwidth content; downloading to local device storage, prior to attempting playback, will address these potential issues. Be aware that some Apps don't support playback from remote storage.

Try using one of the better third-party File Manager Apps that can play video files without local download. One App that comes readily to mind that supports playback of remote content is FileBrowser Professional by Stratospherix:
