My iPad 11 drops frame rates during screen recordings (sometimes down to 6fps). Why?

I'm trying to do simple, very basic screen recordings on my iPad 11 w/ M2 chip.

It often cuts the frame rate down to something insanely low--like 10 fps, or even 6 fps or 4 fps. I bought this iPad this year, solely for the purpose of doing these simple screen recordings. It has no other apps running, and the 120gb of storage is nearly entirely free/unused.

I couldn't ask any less of this iPad, so why must it drop to unusable frame rates when I'm trying to screen record simple notes that I'm taking using Procreate app? (I'm not doing any drawings or anything intensive/demanding whatsoever--literally just writing words and simple symbols and slash marks.)

I've heard elsewhere that the iPad will sometimes automatically adjust the frame rate of its recordings based on what it thinks is necessary in the moment. Is this what's happening? Is there really no way of locking in a frame rate? Even locking in a low rate would be fine--I don't need some 60fps footage or something. But good grief...6fps? It's just unusable.

Any thoughts on this?
