Hi.

After major iOS updates, it’s common for the phone to run hotter as background tasks like indexing and updating happen. If it keeps overheating while charging after a day or two, try restarting the phone and avoid using heavy apps during charging.

If it continues, consider resetting settings or contacting Apple Support.

While it’s normal and true that after an iOS update your iPhone can be a bit hotter, this is not overheating. As stated, after an update your iPhone must undergo indexing and other background tasks which causes your iPhone to work a bit harder temporarily. But this is not “overheating”, which when it occurs your iPhone will shut off and prevent you from using it until it cooled down. Also, as a natural phenomenon iPhone will always exert heat when charging. These tasks should take a few days to perform. You can continue to use your iPhone normally.
