Need Help with Private Relay Email Linked to Unexpected App Subscription

Hi Apple Community,

I need help regarding a subscription charge from an app (Perplexity.ai) that was made using “Sign in with Apple.”

The issue:

  • I signed up for Perplexity using Sign in with Apple.
  • The account is tied to this private relay email: d***********@privaterelay.appleid.com.
  • I was recently charged for a Perplexity Pro subscription, but I did not authorize or manually initiate this transaction.
  • I tried contacting Perplexity support, but they’re asking me to write from the email I used to sign up — which is the private relay email that I can't access.
  • I’m the legitimate owner of the Apple ID linked to that private relay address.

Is there a way for Apple to:

  • Help me verify ownership of the relay email/account,
  • Or contact the app developer on my behalf,
  • Or provide any documentation I can send them to prove the account is mine?
  • Also, is it possible to request a refund if this was billed through my Apple ID?

Any help or guidance would be deeply appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Swenn

You seem to be confusing two very different concepts, which is easy to do because “privaterelay” appears in the email address.

  • Private Relay - A method of protecting your privacy when browsing the web in Safari.
  • Hide My Email - A way to keep your email address private.

”Hide My Email” applies to your scenario. Private Relay does not directly apply.
