Correct iPhone password not working (despite definitely still being correct), scared data will be erased

For some reason, my iPhone is suddenly rejecting my manual password. FaceID worked for a bit, but then after a few attempts, it said that I needed to type in my password before FaceID would work again. I thought, no biggie, let me type in the same password I've had for 3 years and have memorized by muscle memory. Doesn't work. Been trying what I think is the correct password, plus a few variations, and still not working. Not a type, not a double click. Apple is honestly bugging right now. If any of this stuff possibly helps with a diagnosis. Having installed IOS 18.6 yet, posted this on July 30th, so it's a day-old update. Just updated my Apple Watch before this issue. Don't think it's related. Haven't tampered with anything else.

I don't have data backups because I'm not paying for that stuff. Should've been fine since I'm physically careful with my phone, but it turning against me for no reason wasn't on my bucket list.

Just got the 1-hour cooldown, nelp needed ASAP please. Saw another forum where a dude waited a day, and it supposedly went back to normal. So far my only lead on the matter.

Either, you are mis-remembering your passcode, and the passcode you are entering is incorrect, or there is a physical problem with the touchscreen and it is not registering what you think it is.

In either case, you're going to los your data.

You have always had the option of backing up your data to your computer instead of to iCloud.

You're about to learn an important lesson about the necessity of making regular backups.

Brilliant decision. Backups are free if you have a Mac or a PC and worst case a couple of dollars a month will get you automatic backups to iCloud.

There is a frequent saying that goes around on support sites, and it goes like this:

There are two kinds of users who don't back up their data

1) Those that have already lost their important data

2) Those that will lose their important data

If you are still lucky enough to be in the 2) Category, you still have time to decide where you want to be in the future.
