MacBook battery randomly jumped from 83% battery health to 85

How can the max capacity go up? it was originally at 83% and was on 83% for a long time, but just now I checked system preferences and its at 85%, what happened

While you’re in general correct (batteries don’t get healthier w/ age), that Heath value is a calculated estimate, based on several other values; each with their own errors.


Don’t obsess over short term variations.


Only long-term trends matter.

This shows my 2019 MacBook Pro. Note the Health in % goes up and down frequently. Often by 1-2%. These fluctuations are of no consequence, the actual battery health cannot be measured that precisely.


I suggest you make sure that Battery Health Management is active. This will prolong the life of your battery.


Mine has lost 15% capacity since new in 2019. Over 6 years. When it is down 20% it will be time for a battery replacement, so that might be in another 2 years from now, maybe even a bit more because Battery Health Management was introduced after I had been using the laptop for several years.
