Can't submit security questions for my Apple Account

At https://account.apple.com/sign-in, I enter my email and password.


I get an “Apple Account Security” screen. I choose “Other Options.”


I get a “Protect your account” screen. I choose “Don’t Upgrade.”


I get a “Choose security questions to protect your account” screen. I select three questions/answers and click “Continue.”


I get the following message: “Your request could not be completed. This action could not be completed because of an error. Try again later.”


I click OK and get “An unknown error has occurred. Your request could not be completed at this time.”


I got this on 8/1/25 and 8/4/25. Seems like a bug with the website.

You may want to see whether Apple Support's online article (link below) can help with what to do:

If you can’t create an Apple Account or see “your account cannot be created at this time” - Apple Support

Wondering what hardware and software version you are using.

Security Questions were used at one time

( ie: ... there are articles available for those whose account still requires answers for access:

March 2025: Change your Apple Account security questions - Apple Support:)

and

Archived: If you forgot the answers to your Apple ID security questions - Apple Support

.

Seems new Apple Accounts are generally set up to use greater security with two-factor authentication,

and it is recommended those still using security questions change to the new verification method.:
