Unable to deactivate compromised Apple ID despite identity theft

I clicked on a Verizon link that enable to hacker to enter my phone and change my Apple ID password. Although I created a new Apple ID account, I have repeatedly called Apple customer service to have that other account deactivated or deleted and they’re saying they’re unable to do so because the individual has to change their password or log into the account to do that. But I no longer have access to change the password because of an identity theft issue. This is a serious Life impacting incident and I need Apple support and I feel that I am not getting the protection I need as a consumer. This can happen to anyone so basically this happens people are just locked out and that account has to exist and that person is just going through my iCloud and all of my information and I can’t deactivate it or close it that’s unacceptable!

No. There is no possible way a hacker entered your iPhone remotely. This is not possible.

They may have changed your Apple account password from the website if you gave them your password, but the iPhone was not involved in any way.

You cannot randomly request deletion of an account you don't have access to, it simply does not work that way, otherwise, anyone could just request an account they don't own be deleted.

You can request access to the account if you can prove it's yours.

  1. This is a user to user forum. You are not addressing Apple Support here directly and a such we have no security team here.
  2. As mentioned, if your account was compromised, that is different from accessing your iPhone. Clarity is of utmost importance when dealing with these types of issues.
  3. Apple will not de-activate an account you don't have access to. You can try to recover access to the Apple account that is still logged into a device you own and have proof or purchase for. Once you regain access, you can do with the account whatever you want. But Apple cannot and will not delete or de-activate an account that you cannot access, because it opens up a can of worms. If anyone can just request an account be de-activated without having access to it.
  4. If you still have access to a device that is logged in to the compromised account, you can try going to Settings ➜ Apple Account ➜ Sign in & Security ➜ Change Apple password. You don't need to enter the current password, just the devices screen unlock passcode.
  5. If you don't have access to that, then I'm afraid there is no way to have that Apple account de-activated.

So to paraphrase all that, your Apple Account got phished (and either with no two-factor authentication or getting phished there too), and now you want an Apple Account not (no longer) associated with you deleted?

If that is what happened, your request is not happening.

It’s no longer your account, if it ever was.

Why not? Because this would not be the first time somebody tried to get somebody else’s account deleted.

Get your gear moved to your new Apple Account, and which will typically arrive with two-factor enabled.

Apple Accounts don't have proof of purchase. That's for devices only.

You need to be able to access the account to request its deletion.

Proof of purchase of a device is only required if the device has activation locked and you need to remove the logged in account from the device. This does not in any way delete the account, only removes it from the device.

If you have proof of purchase for the iPhone from Apple or an authorized reseller, you can request Apple remove the account from the device, again, this is different to having the account deleted entirely.

click here ➜ start an Activation Lock support request.

With that done, you can log in with a different Apple account on the device.

Do note, you will need to delete all apps downloaded with the compromised account from the device and erase the device and set it up again.

Thank you for your response, but I have to respectfully disagree with your assessment.
While I understand that Apple products are designed with security in mind, the reality is that my Apple ID was clearly compromised — and the trusted phone number was changed, locking me out of my own account. Whether or not the iPhone was accessed "remotely" in the traditional sense is irrelevant. The compromise of my Apple ID, combined with access to photos, sensitive data, and associated apps and accounts, has had a serious impact on my digital safety.
I’ve filed a police report, submitted an FTC identity theft affidavit, frozen my credit, created a new Apple ID, and changed all critical passwords. Yet I’m still unable to regain access to the compromised Apple ID or have it deactivated — despite having legitimate proof of identity.
I’m asking Apple not for speculation, but for serious escalation to deactivate or recover the hijacked account. I believe your security team should be involved in a situation like this — especially when the individual is a verified victim of identity theft.

I have proof of purchase! I informed the Apple representatives that I have proof of purchase and they said there’s still nothing that they can do. I have not given anyone my password. Verizon informed me someone was trying to add a device to my account. Once I clicked on that link, which I know was my mistake because I thought I had to deny the addition of the device, They then were able to get into my iCloud and have all of my information. Once I went to download my Verizon app and I looked at my Apple ID. The number had changed the password to changed and the number had changed and I had not given it to anyone. They took access of my account. I am just requesting that the account be deleted or deactivated so no one can do anything else with my iCloud information. The hacker was in my phone and was able to try to make purchases open credit cards all sorts of things. And with this day and age of technology, if I’m proving to you that that is my phone, I have proof of purchase and this and my Apple ID was compromise my it’s an identity theft issue Because now this person is trying to make purchases open accounts all sorts of things. All I need from is for them to then OK deactivate or delete the account! This is a special circumstance that can happen to anyone and it’s not acceptable that now the honest responsibilities is all thrown on me and I can’t get any help from Apple but yet you can take my money when I wanna purchase your products correct! Consumers need to know that they’re not fully protected with Apple products!
