How to Edit the URL of a bookmark the on home screen (iPad)

On my iPad, I am trying to create a bookmark icon on the home screen with the correct URL.

I know how to create one for a web page that I am browsing, but the issue is that I need a specific URL associated with it that automatically redirects to Single Sign-On (SSO). Herein lies the problem.

  1. I paste the specific URL into Safari and tap Enter.
  2. I tap the Share icon followed by the Add to home page button.

Unfortunately, the URL listed in the add to homepage pop-up is the one I've been redirected to. The pop-up gives me no options for editing the URL, which is short-sighted by Apple.

Does anyone know of a way to either allow editing of the URL upon creation of a home screen bookmark or of a way to edit it after the fact? I cannot find one.
