Is there a way to access Macbook settings when I can’t get past the login screen and into my account?

Hi,

Unexpectedly the keyboard on my Macbook started behaving strangely, for example, when I press the “return” key, the “0” key inputs at the same time. There are similar strange key input issues like that with pretty much the entire right side of my keyboard.

I wasn’t sure what was going on so I restarted my computer. Bad choice because the problem persisted, and now I am unable to correctly type in my password to get into my account due to the messed up key inputs.

Also, I don’t have a guest account option.

I want to just use an external keyboard until I can get my laptop looked at, but I fear I won’t be able to even set it up unless I can get access to the settings.

So, I was wondering if there is any way to access my settings, particularly the keyboard settings, when I can’t even get past the home screen to login to my account.

Thanks in advance!

Plug in a wired USB keyboard and try to access your user account with that. Even a PC keyboard will work. No special setup necessary.

Otherwise, no, there is no other way to access system settings without properly logging into the computer.
