How do I disable the "extend wallpaper" function?

I have an image that has been specifically cropped to the size of the iphone screen. I've been able to use it perfectly as a wallpaper in the past. Ever since the last update, it no longer works. When I select the image to use it as a wallpaper, it automatically zooms in on it. When I pinch to zoom out, it "extends" the wallpaper with a gradient on the top.

I don't want this. I have an image that's specifically cropped to the size of the iphone screen. I've been able to use it perfectly as a wallpaper in the past. Now, I have to zoom in at least a little bit, losing the details around the border, in order to AVOID the phone automatically changing the image by adding a gradient to the top.

I don't want this. I have an image that has been specifically cropped to the size of the iphone screen. I've been able to use it perfectly as a wallpaper in the past. Now I can't, because of this dumb "extend wallpaper" option that I want to go away. If I'm repeating myself, I'm sorry. But I'm frustrated, and I'm doing everything right, so don't tell me my image isn't properly cropped. This isn't user error. It's Apple forcing me to use a feature I don't want, that completely RUINS my experience of using my phone.

I'm a photographer and a layout designer. I edit my images so they display EXACTLY the way I want them to display. Meticulously. But now Apple is telling me that I do not own the borders of my photos anymore. I have to choose either to zoom in and trim them off, or artificially extend the image with space on the top that I do not want. TURN IT OFF!!!
