Unable to pair Magic Keyboard with my Dell laptop

I've got a new Magic keyboard Model A1843 that I've used with my IPad 10th gen. I've been trying to pair it with my Dell XPS but the laptop will not "see" the keyboard. The instructions say make sure to put in discoverable mode using a button on the bottom. I see no such button. Only the switch that exposes a green color when pushed outward (turning it on). I have it on the charger but there is no indicator when fully charged. I know that on the IPad, it will not pair when on the charge cable. Any suggestions?

"Yes, the Apple Magic Keyboard Model A1843 can be paired with a Windows PC. It uses Bluetooth for connectivity, so you'll need to enable Bluetooth on your PC and put the keyboard into pairing mode.

Here's how to pair it:

  1. 1. Enable Bluetooth on your PC:
  2. Go to Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices (or similar, depending on your Windows version) and ensure Bluetooth is turned on.
  3. 2. Put the keyboard in pairing mode:
  4. If the keyboard is already paired with another device, turn it off and then back on to initiate pairing mode. You should see a green light flashing on the keyboard.
  5. 3. Add the device on your PC:
  6. Click "Add Bluetooth or other device" and then select "Bluetooth".
  7. 4. Select the Magic Keyboard:
  8. Your PC should detect the Magic Keyboard. Select it from the list of devices.
  9. 5. Pairing:
  10. If you're prompted for a passcode, Windows will display it. Type the passcode on the Magic Keyboard and press Enter. If it's a newer Magic Keyboard, you might just need to click "Connect" or "Yes" after the code is generated.
  11. 6. Finalize the connection:
  12. Windows will finalize the setup, and you should be able to use the keyboard.

Important notes:

  • The Magic Keyboard only supports Bluetooth connections, not a wired connection.
  • If you encounter issues, try restarting both the keyboard and your PC, and make sure the Bluetooth drivers on your PC are up to date.
  • You may need to update your Bluetooth drivers if you encounter connection problems according to a user on Stack Exchange
  • You can find the Apple Wireless Keyboard option under the Bluetooth devices menu.
  • Some key functions might differ between macOS and Windows, but basic typing should work.

Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad - Technical Specifications - Apple Support

System Requirements

  • Bluetooth-enabled Mac computer with macOS 10.12.4 or later
  • iOS devices with iOS 10.3 or later

Set up your Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, or Magic Trackpad with your Mac - Apple Support

With a Mac or iPhone, making a wired connection to the keyboard

  • Recharges the batteries in the keyboard
  • Lets you use the keyboard as a wired keyboard
  • Automatically pairs the keyboard with the computer

That's why there's no separate pairing button. I would guess that the recharging and wired keyboard functions work with a Windows PC because they operate in a very generic USB way. The automatic pairing bit likely is not something that Windows would know is needed, or would know how to do.

I've taken the charge cable off the keyboard (not sure how to tell if it's charging or charged). Got the laptop into Bluetooth setup and on. The Surface arc mouse is connected and working.

I turn the power switch off (covering the green) then back on to clear any other devices it was paired with.

Wait. I see no green flashing light on the keyboard and no detection by the PC.

It was charged prior and working with the gen 10 iPad. It will pair and work with the iPad.
