Photo Slideshow "Sort By" or "Arrange" ordering does not work

I am importing 300 photos from an album to a new Slideshow project. I am trying to sort them from "oldest first".

When I do this, nothing re-arranges. I have made sure that the "loop slideshow" button is also disabled to make sure it's playing in 1 direction. It does not seem to make a difference on the Theme - multiple or single photos per slide.

Where are you doing this "sorting?" Unlike for albums, the View>Sort for a Slideshow Project is grayed out:

It seems that the sort order starts out as the same order as the album they were created from and, after that, re-ordering is done by moving pictures individually within the Project.

Is that not what you see?

Well, if you can figure out what "Arrange" does, I'd appreciate you letting me know. As far as I can find, it doesn't do anything. It's grayed out for Library or Smart Albums, but not for Albums. Since the choices are by date, I can't think of what else it might apply to. It doesn't seem to change anything. I didn't even know it was there, and I do this stuff every day! (But I don't seriously make projects.)

I think what you have to do with 300 pictures is put them in order before loading them into Slideshow. You can add ordered pictures, and you can change the order one at a time, but I can't see a way to sort them based on their dates or titles after they are there.
