Charging icon and battery charge info in systems not matching

I pad generation 6, lost charge, I tried to charge it, but got nothing, I brought the iPad home and used my universal charger, and iPhone cord. It charged enough to turn it on and check the battery info. I then realized that it will only charge (or show charged 100%) if I power off and turn it back on.

After doing this for 2 hours, It finely showed 100 percent charged in both the info in systems and the battery icon. As soon as I touch the home button, the icon shows 65% and the info still says 100 percent charged. We use it for our business, I am afraid it will stop working once we start using it again. We have had zero issues until now. Thanks in advance... it is an Ipad 6 generation with software updated and no clutter of downloads etc.
