There are no new updates for the iPhone 6s.

If you want to run iOS 16, you will need an iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus or iPhone X.

If you want to run iOS 18, you will need an iPhone XR or higher model, but since you will be looking for a new phone, it would make sense to choose a model that will be supported with updates for the next 7-8 years. That would be an iPhone 15 or iPhone 16.

You can update your iPhone 6s to the latest release of iOS 15 – currently iOS 15.8.4.

You cannot update it to iOS 16 or higher. If you need or want to run something higher than iOS 15.*, it is time to purchase a new iPhone, preferably one that is compatible with iOS 18, will be compatible with iOS 26, and has several years of updates ahead of it.

Like, say, an iPhone 15- or 16-series phone. (Or, if you can wait until later this year, one of the new iPhones that would be extremely likely to come out then.)
