I've just moved to a different country and am trying to download some apps but keep getting a notification saying "App not available in your country or region"; but I know that it is as some of my friends in the area have it. Any ideas?

Wondering if the country listed in your Apple (ID) Account is the same as the country in which you are trying to make the download: If you wish: You can check: Availability of Apple Media Services - Apple Support fot the App Store country that your account is associated with.

The apps may, or may not, be available in both countries.
If you have moved to another country permanently:
You may want to check through: Change your Apple Account country or region - Apple Support
Eg: says:
"Before you update your location, you must spend your account balance, cancel your subscriptions and get a payment method for your new country or region." (Details in above article)
