Confusion between WhatsApp backup and iCloud phone backup on iPhone
Hi there,
I think there is a huge question mark on where the WhatsApp backup on iPhone is done, as well as the "possible" link with the Phone Backup on iCloud.
On WhatsApp app itself, you can configure a backup (daily, weekly, ...) and it says it is done on "iCloud" :
Here as you can see, my Total volume is 1,39 Gb :
On the iPhone, if you look at the iCloud besides backing up the Pictures, documents, Drive, Messages, etc ..., you can also backup the phone itself, and there you have the possibility to select / unselect the apps you want :
you can see here the WhatsApp, although not selected, is saying it would take 435ko if you want to back it up. But if you select it, you will see more than a Gigabyte ...
Now, if you look at my total space consumption, it says 1,4 Go for Documents, and 331 Mo for the phone backup :
So the phone backup seems to correspond with what my iPhone says (331,2 Mo), but my questions :
- That means the WhatsApp backup is done under "Documents" ??
- How can I see the contents of "Documents" on the iCloud (because I am not saving any other doc, so I assume this is 1,4 Go is corresponding to the 1,39 Go which my WhatsApp backup says (first screenshot) ?
- Here I disabled the WhatsApp backup under "Phone backup", but If I enable it, I will see more than a Gb there .... That means then the WhatsApp data is saved at 2 locations :
3.1 : Under the phone backup and
3.2 : Under the "Documents" ?
what is the difference in saving the WhatsApp data under the phone backup or under Documents ?
I thinks this is explained nowhere by Apple nor WhatsApp.
I have also no clue when buying a new iPhone and installing it restoring the data what is taken from Phone backup and what is taken from documents .... in this case WhatsApp is located at the 2 locations ??
If anyone knows how it works exactly, thanks in advance ;-)
