Do you mean Messenger, the Facebook/Meta messaging app? Or do you mean Messages, the Apple messaging app that comes pre-installed on all phones?

First, go to Settings>Notifications, find the app you want to check, and make sure that you have notifications enabled.

Are you only missing sounds, or is the red badge on the Messenger icon gone too? That might help narrow down whether it’s an app bug or a phone setting.
