Why does Safari not use its own search engine and how to delete browser history?

Why does it not open websites using the Safari search engine. I uses google, yahoo, etc. Also how do I delete the browser websites:

1. Safari is a web browser, not a search engine.

2. Choose Show All History from the History menu and delete them. Deleting all data from the website can be done in the Privacy section of the Settings.

Not only, as Niel stated, is Safari not a search engine, Apple does not have a search engine of its own. You must use a third-party option. You can choose the one you want in Settings>Apps>Safari>Search Engine. The current choices are Google, Yahoo, Bing, Yandex, DuckDuckGo and Ecosia. DuckDuckGo is often recommended as being the one that Mose respects your privacy.
