How can I remove Lost Mode and re-enable Touch ID after Stolen Device Protection was triggered on my Apple devices?

Hello,

I have 4 devices linked to the same iCloud account: 1 iPad, 2 iPhones, and 1 MacBook. Recently, I changed the iCloud password on one of the iPhones.

After doing this, my other devices (iPad, the second iPhone, and MacBook) entered Stolen Device Protection mode, and Touch ID was disabled.

I then followed an online tutorial that suggested activating Lost Mode using the Find My app, but this seems to have made things worse. Now:

  • The affected devices are stuck in Lost Mode.
  • When I connect them to my MacBook, I cannot select “Trust This Device” because they remain locked.
  • Touch ID is still disabled.

Additional information:

  • I still have full access to my iCloud account with the new password.
  • I am the original owner of all devices (with proof of purchase if needed).

Could you please advise:

  1. How can I safely remove Lost Mode from these devices?
  2. How can I re-enable Touch ID after Stolen Device Protection was triggered?
  3. Is there any solution short of erasing the devices?

Thank you.

Stolen Device Protection is something you set up. It is not triggered by anything. About Stolen Device Protection for iPhone - Apple Support All it does is require you be present in a known location before changing security related settings. It means that if a thief grabs your phone and runs off with it while you are logged in, the thief cannot change settings on it preventing you from enabling Lost Mode or the thief being able to change your passcode. SDP is something you can leave turned on all the time.

You activating Lost mode basically set the devices on which you set it into Lost Mode which did make things worse. There was no need to set that.

Read about how to use Lost Mode in Find Devices on iCloud.com

Use Lost Mode in Find Devices on iCloud.com - Apple Support

When you find your lost device, do either of the following to turn off Lost Mode:

- You can turn off Lost Mode by entering your passcode on the device.

- In Find Devices on iCloud.com, click All Devices, then select the device that’s in Lost Mode. Click Lost Mode, click Stop Lost Mode, then click Stop Lost Mode again.

Thank you for the explanation.

Let me clarify my situation more clearly:

  1. I have 4 devices (2 iPhones, 1 iPad, 1 MacBook) under the same iCloud account.
  2. I recently changed the iCloud password on one iPhone.
  3. After this:
    • The other iPhone went into a restricted stateTouch ID was disabled and I cannot use it normally.
    • My iPad is still accessible.
    • My MacBook is running normally.
    • The iPhone where I changed the password continues to work fine.

4. I mistakenly activated Lost Mode on the restricted iPhone using Find My. This made things worse.

5. I later canceled Lost Mode via iCloud.com, but nothing changed.

6. On the affected iPhone, I can enter the passcode, but the device says:

Touch ID is required to confirm your identity and exit Lost Mode.

7. Since Touch ID was disabled after the password change, I cannot complete this step.

8. When I connect the iPhone to my MacBook, I also cannot select “Trust This Device” because it remains locked in this state.

Important note: all my devices are physically side by side with me, under the same iCloud account. Clearly this is not a stolen-device scenario. The system should recognize this as a trusted family of devices instead of locking me out.

So it seems the issue is tied to the iCloud password change + Stolen Device Protection, not just Lost Mode.

My main questions are:

  1. Why does the iPhone still require Touch ID (not just passcode) to exit Lost Mode?
  2. How can I regain access when Touch ID was disabled and I cannot use it?
  3. Is there a safe recovery method without erasing the device?

For clarity: I can log in to my iCloud account with the new password, and I am the original owner of all devices.
