Unable to change Apple Account email on new MacBook Pro

On a new Macbook Pro when I log in the settings shows an email address for my apple account that I do not use anymore for apple. I am not able to reset password or change email to the correct email address that works on icloud. I am able to log into icloud and apple with the correct address but not with the email that pops up when I log into computer.

Your Mac is locked to the Apple Account that you used to sign into the device. There are 2 ways to remove that account.

  • Enter the Password you used to lock the Mac to the account. If you forgot the Password, then you have 3 ways to reset it, whether that is by using a Trusted Device, Trusted Phone Number, or Account Recovery. Using Account Recovery is the last option to use as it will require a waiting period.

  • Remove the Activation Lock with the proper purchase documentation to prove the device is yours. In most cases, this is the receipt from Apple or Authorized Apple Seller, as Apple does not get involved in any third party sales.

Of course, the reason you need to do this is it prevents your device from being used if it is stolen and protects your data. Is there some reason why you were unable to reset the password and did you use Account Recovery?
